Donor Strategy

Why do we continually complain about the things that we cannot control?  Much energy is wasted on these things. I hope that you would agree.

We hear things like, “It is harder to fundraise in our area.” Or, “There are more nonprofits in our county than other counties.” Or even, “Our donors can’t give as much as other donors can give.” I’ve even heard, “Our economy is so much worse.” Worse than what?

Are you making excuses instead of choices? I’m sure that you have data to support your justifications,  but do you have data to support the facts? Wouldn’t it be a better donor strategy to “play your hand” instead?

Couldn’t you, perhaps, see more prospects each week or attend two extra networking events each month? Of course, you could, but it is easier to rationalize and just stay in the office. You have a wonderful organization with a mission to share, but you might be stuck in the stories you tell yourself. Maybe you “folded” your hand and your donor strategy and now you’re on the sideline.

We have seen this and as with many fundraising questions, a good coach and donor strategy can remove the stories in your head. Your donors are the same as the others, your area is the same, your marketplace is the same. But……..

YOU make the difference. Be bold and play your game!

Please share one of your stories, where you refused to just “fold.”  We love to hear from you!
