Counting what you raised is easy, counting what you missed is hard!

How many times have you personally reached out to your donors and donor prospects? Are you missing opportunities because of all the reporting and administration you need to do?

A few years ago an elderly donor, who was a small donor to the organization we were working with, wrote a letter asking if someone from the office would come and visit her about making a gift. The organization sent their chief executive, and they had a great visit. Our work is about building relationships. She told him that she sent 20 letters out to organizations she wrote checks to but he was the only one who responded.

Shortly after the visit, the donor passed leaving $6 million of her estate to this one charity because they took the time to meet her and cast their vision. We can always add up the amount of money we raise each year but we can’t count how many financial opportunities we missed because we were too busy, lacked time or didn’t think it important.
