Donor Engagement

When I coached Little League, we scheduled  sessions with a “master coach” for us.  To help us be the best we could for the kids. Kind of like how we help our clients.

But today’s message is about efficiency. This “master” coach told the coaches that when it came to the kid’s swinging the bat, it was not about a good swing vs. a bad swing. Rather it was how much time they had.  Huh?

He said that if a player can practice hitting balls for an hour EVERY day, it doesn’t matter what his swing looks like. But like most of us, we do not have an extra hour for anything!

So he showed us how to teach the kids the most EFFICIENT swing. One that would be the simplest from batting position to hitting the ball. One that didn’t take hours of daily practice.

This got me thinking. Is this like your day? You have money to raise. People to see. Places to go. But are you being efficient with donor engagement? Do you get caught in the office? One too many meetings you wish you didn’t have to attend? If you had “time to spare”, it wouldn’t matter! You would get it all done with your “extra” time.

Who is your master coach? Who is helping you be the most efficient with your time so you can be most effective with your results? Who can prepare you for all the major gift appointments you need to schedule in a limited amount of time? Who keeps you on track with donor engagement when the other “stuff” gets in the way?

The only way to be successful when time is a premium is to get efficient! You can find the right coach to become efficient with the time you do have , but you can’t “find” more time.

Looking for time is very inefficient……
