Donor Management Process
Do you believe this statement? Did you read it again to make sure it was not a typo? I DID!!!!!!
The first time I heard this said, I stopped and played it back in my head. The speaker then repeated the words. I did hear it correctly! The topic was gratitude for what we already have. The challenge was to be generous with our time and our resources. The speaker went on to say that the self-satisfaction from giving of our time or our resources FREELY, would be greater than we could ever imagine.
I took the message for myself, but then I thought about the donor management process and the donors that I interact with regularly – mostly with our clients, occasionally on our client’s behalf. We bring the conversation around to how they feel about THEIR impact. What if your donors thought of your organization as the recipient of their “selfishness”?
What are you doing to help them with this thought process? How much more generous would they be if they focused on how THEY would feel after making the gift? Can you show the impact clearly enough so that they can feel selfish enough?
These are question of the donor management process that need answers. Once you are comfortable with the answers, you will see your donors more engaged with organizational involvement. They will not just look at YOUR need for your organization, but rather THEIR need to make a difference. Anything less than this becomes a gift less than capacity!
The world can use more people whose selfish desire is to be generous.
