Fundraising can be simple…but it is never easy

I know what you are thinking. Simple and easy are the same, right? Only if you agree with someone on a definition. For this blog, they are defined very differently.

“Simple”, in this case, is a step-by-step process that you can access when setting out to complete a task, big or small. You can learn the right way to accomplish successful results from your own experience or more likely from someone else’s broader experience.

Whether we are talking about an event that you never produced before or a series of major gift asks that you need to complete in a timeframe, it can be simple with the right plan. But I can assure you from personal experience — a lot of experience — it is never easy to effectively and efficiently raise money.

“Easy” is defined by me today as effortless and without obstruction. By definition, we would all agree that raising money is not effortless. And there are obstructions. Sometimes even WE are the biggest obstruction. We go it alone. We do not rely on experience for a proper track on which to run.

Are we ready to make the calls or gather our team for an event? Can we produce the desired results for our organization? Do we have a simple plan? Are we comfortable to begin, knowing that the experience of others is accessible to us?

When you can answer those questions with confidence, you are ready to begin. Start today. Think simple.
