Early in the week I was at the NonProfit Pro Peer to Peer Fundraising Conference in Philly with over 130 nonprofit executives from all over the country which provided exceptional insights into the nonprofit peer to peer industry. The last decade has seen a major transformation from its previous heights. Fewer yet more powerful and successful events hosted by organizations like the Kidney Foundation, MLS, American Society, etc., has shown the ability of nonprofits to change with the times while incorporating new technologies and data-driven strategies.
As a major gift fundraiser, I am often asked where can I find new donors. Some of your best prospects may lie in your fundraising data. One charity represented noted finding a donor with a net worth of over $500 million who had been giving $1,000 to the same event each year. One phone call led to his first gift of $100,000. Major charities are drilling down into fundraising data and syncing their messaging with what they find out about their donors. Credit card companies have been doing this for years with far more sophistication than any growing organization.
It is important to be a continual learner in this space. Presenters talked about the use of data scientists and artificial intelligence in helping find the right donors. If you don’t keep up with the fast pace of change you might miss opportunities. For example, did you know that over $75 million has been raised by gamers using Twitch.tv as an adaption to finding new donors? It’s important to diversify your revenue channels as 80% of peer to peer fundraising donors convert to another fundraising channel.
The way to do a great deal is to keep on doing a little.
The way to do nothing at all is to be continually resolving that you will do everything.
