Lack of money is not the problem. It does, however, point to an issue or issues within the organization that need to be addressed. A study was conducted for one of our multi-national clients which revealed that fundraising was the biggest issue of over half of their 1,000 affiliates around the globe. Why? Lack of vision, lack of leadership, lack of the right prospect pool, and/or a failure to create a strategic development plan. And sometimes it’s a lack of investment in fundraising or understanding what makes a great fundraiser for your organization.
For years we’ve been telling our clients’ boards that we don’t want them to be the fundraisers. They can be part of the process but that work has to be done internally. It requires planning, training, people with the right mix of competencies and an investment in people and resources.
When you start the week, who is the person that wakes up every day thinking about fundraising?
